You’ve set a new goal. It’s a doozy and you’re worried about staying motivated. Do you have to tough it out alone? Absolutely not! There are many tools that you can use to make reaching your goals easier.
Here are a few of my favorite motivational tools, any and all of which can help you stay on track and achieve your goals: A blog or journal can help you plan the action steps to reach your goal. You can keep a daily or weekly journal; whatever works best for you. Many people start off by using a weekly journal and then switching to a daily one as they see the benefit of writing down their fears and accomplishments. Plus, the blog (or journal) acts as a reference in case the situation or feeling happens again. Calendars and planners in all forms are available online. You can use something as simple as a spreadsheet. You can even download apps to your cell phone, tablet, or other mobile device. This way you can access your planner no matter where you are. I use Google Calendar, Todoist (a task list that integrates with Google Calendar), plus two spreadsheets: one for social media planning and one for long term content planning. There are even apps that allow you to connect to groups of people with similar goals and to post your results to social media. You can even challenge your friends and family to friendly competitions. This helps you set and achieve weekly goals, by incorporating a little bit of fun into them. Bud, my mom and I all have Fitbits (mine is the Inspire) and we get to see who gets the most steps each week (it’s usually Bud). Another app I used to help me stay motivated for weight loss was Sparkpeople. You can find groups for almost any type of interest and everyone is united in their desire to be healthier. Other great tools to use include using motivational mp3’s and quotes. Audio mp3’s or CD’s are great to take with you as you can listen to them while driving. Quotes are fantastic for placing on your mirror or fridge so you can read them every day. Quotes or affirmations are also good for reinforcing your goals and abilities on a daily basis, so don’t overlook using them.
