I participated in an Influencer Activation Program on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for BGCA. I received a promotional item to thank me for participating.
A few years ago, Bud was the victim of a cyberbullying incident. At the time, there were not a lot of resources available to tell us what steps to take to deal with this situation, or even how we could have prevented it from happening in the first place.
But in 2014, parents have a reliable resource for cyber safety!! The Boys & Girls Clubs of America have launched their Cyber Safe Futures Initiative in support of Internet Safety Awareness. The website, is a storehouse of helpful information for parents on the different aspects of the Internet and how to make sure our teens are safe when using them.
Follow up the quiz by browsing through all the resources available. Information is divided into four parts: Cyberbullying, Social Networks, Mobile Technology and Online Privacy. There are videos, tips for parents, discussion cards and links to outside resources within each section.
In addition, there is a glossary of cyber terms (so you can nod knowingly when your kid talks about his avatar, or how tired he is of adware.
Finally, check out the CyberTribe. The CyberTribe, in partnership with Sprint, is a panel of real life teen experts who are available to answer parents’ cyber safety questions. It’s super easy to submit your own question. Here’s how:
