All her life, she thought she was alone as a mind reader–a freak.
Then a member of a secret organization called The Unseen suddenly introduces himself, and she’s immersed in a world she never knew existed. They teach her to hone her skills as a reader, but to what end? Secrets surround her, humming just out of reach, filling her with questions.
Who are they? What do they do with their mind-reading abilities? In the end, just how far will Mackenzie go to be part of The Unseen?
Unseen is the most cerebral book I’ve read in a long time. I guess that makes sense, inasmuch as the main character is a mind reader 😉
There is not a lot of action in this book, but LOTS of description. It was fascinating to feel like I was inside the brain of a mind reader.
Mackenzie’s inability to block the thoughts of those around her is a handicap instead of an asset throughout her childhood. I liked how the author compared it to someone with ADD/ADHD.
I thought that some of the revelations Mackenzie discovers as she spends time with the Unseen were a bit predictable, but still disturbing and fascinating.
I don’t want to give away too much, but there is a lot of strong emotion in Unseen, so be prepared to laugh, get angry, cry and smile. I felt like I needed to take a walk in the “real” world when I finished.
I give Unseen four and a half stars. It’s a fairly quick read that will suck you in and keep you enthralled until the very last page. I can’t wait for book two, which promises a little more action and adventure than the first book.
I received a complimentary copy of this book for the purpose of review through Promotional Book Tours. All opinions are 100% my own.
