Every year for Christmas I do my annual holiday baking. Gingerbread cookies, coconut macaroons, divinity fudge (if the weather’s right) and everyone’s favorite – decorated sugar cookies. I started making sugar cookies with my mom when I was very young and the tradition has continued in my own house.
Now that I am working more hours I have less time for baking. Still, I wanted to make something special for my family that would remind them of our annual tradition. I was thrilled when Sweetworks sent me a giant box of goodies for all my holiday baking needs.

I had the idea to make a sugar cookie pizza. This way we didn’t have to worry about cutting out the individual shapes (or even rolling out the dough). Once it was baked, Willow and I each took half and decorated it as we wanted. It was a fun and easy project which still got us in the holiday spirit!!

1 cup butter, softened
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. almond extract
2 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
2 cups powdered sugar
1/3 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 Tbsp. milk

Preheat oven to 375F.
Mix together sugar, butter, vanilla, almond extract and egg in a bowl. Stir in remaining ingredients. Refrigerate dough for at least 2 hours.
Remove dough from refrigerator and let sit for about 15 minutes until it is workable.
Press dough into the bottom of a greased, 14 inch pizza pan. Bake 10-15 minutes, or until golden brown. Allow to cool in pan for 45 minutes.
While cookie is cooling, mix powdered sugar and butter for frosting in a medium bowl on low speed. Stir in vanilla and milk.
Once cookie is cool, flip it over onto a decorative plate.
