PRO Compression Marathon Sock Review #keepittight

Since I was diagnosed with venous insufficiency, I have been stuck wearing not-so-pretty, thick knee-high nylons.  They have 15-20 mmHg compression, which helps keep my feet and ankles from swelling.

swollen anklesThey are pretty comfortable, but also pretty ugly and VERY hot!!  I have been on the lookout for something lighter and/or more attractive.

I was very excited when the folks at PRO Compression asked me to review their marathon socks.

About the Product:

PRO Compression Marathon Socks ReviewMarathon runners use compression socks because they help improve blood flow, resulting in better, more consistent performance with less fatigue and faster, more efficient recovery. In addition to improving vascular performance, Marathon compression socks provide support to critical muscles and tendons, helping reduce inflammation and soreness.

PRO Compression Marathon socks feature:

  • Full-length, graduated compression design for maximum blood flow
  • Non-slip design, even after hours on your feet
  • Lightweight construction for incredible feel
  • Blended materials provide maximum comfort and support
  • Moisture control keeps you dry during your biggest efforts
  • Made in USA

My Review:

I was a little unsure of how these socks would work for me because they are a slightly stronger compression (22-26 mmHg) than my usual stockings.  But they are so gosh darn cute!! Plus, I figured if marathon runners can wear them for an entire race, I should be able to handle them for a day of work.

The PRO Compression Marathon socks are my new favorite compression stockings!!  They are SO comfortable and lightweight!!  Plus they have built-in moisture control so my feet don’t feel as hot as they do in my regular nylons.  Also, they are machine washable, which is a huge bonus for me, because my traditional stockings have to be hand-washed.

Not to mention, they are so stinking cute!!

PRO Compression Marathon Socks ReviewI highly recommend the PRO Compression Marathon socks for runners as well as those who need that extra compression for other reasons (like me!!)  They are super comfortable and come in so many colorful styles!! (Mine are Michelle Jones Limited Edition).

Bedphones Sleep Headphones Review

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

Art likes to say he is a night owl.  In truth, he has some level of insomnia.  In order to help himself fall asleep at night, he likes to listen to music.  Sometimes though, the sound in the bedroom will wake me up.  He can’t wear traditional earbuds because they dig into his ear when he sidesleeps.

My wonderful hubby

A couple of years ago, we found some wireless headphones that enable him to listen to the TV from bed (we have a lot of music-only channels).  The only problem is that these are full, cover-the-ear headphones which means Art can only wear them lying on his back – which means he snores.  And of course, then I wake up anyway. We were both very interested when the people at Bedphones asked me to review their sleep headphones.

About the Product

  •  At less than 1/4″ thick, these soft, foam-covered headphones are the THINNEST IN THE WORLD.
  •  Earhooks are made from gentle, rubber-coated memory wire, INFINITELY ADJUSTABLE for a custom fit. Wear the cable down your back and tighten with the cable slider to keep the headphones secure all night.
  •  Come with a sturdy-sided travel case and one-year manufacturer’s warranty. And for long rides, they also come with a comfy satin eye mask.
  • Have an OPTIONAL INLINE MICROPHONE WITH REMOTE – a necessity for the many who want to use these headphones as their all-day everyday headphones. The single-buttom remote is compatible with most smartphones and allows you to answer phone calls, play, pause, and skip music tracks without touching your phone.

The good:

The generous cable length of 59″ was ample enough for me to have my MP3 player on the nightstand and still allowed for some tossing and turning without strangling me. The cable and earphones felt well-made with solid connectors, good strain relief and a tough rubberized cable jacket. The headphones stayed secure on my ear with the memory wire ear hooks which wrap around the ear.  I flipped from one side to another all night and they never fell off.

I especially liked that the Bedphones are flat (1/4″) and are comfortable sleeping on my side with my ear directly on the pillow, or with my ear on my arm when sleeping on my stomach.  They do not give that “princess and the pea” lump pressing into the ear while sleeping like most earbuds which are inserted into the ear.  The sound quality was also very good.

The not-so-good:

Being a stomach and side sleeper, my biggest complaint is that the Bedphones do not “hug” your ears.  Therefore, sound volume and quality suffers.  For example, when sleeping on my side, the Bedphone which was pressed to my ear by the pillow sounded great and was comfortable, but I could not hear with the ear facing the ceiling.  The sound quality and volume were reduced because the Bedphone had nothing to press it equally into my ear like the pillow.  Think of it like playing with the balance control on your car stereo where you go from the left speakers to the right.

The next day I thought about what I could do to keep both the left and right Bedphones pressed into my ear and remembered I had an old cotton head sweatband in my gym bag.  Before going to sleep, I put the Bedphones on and then covered them with my sweatband.  While not perfect, it did help to keep the “upper” ear bathed in music, albeit with slightly reduced volume, for the night.  I think a neoprene headband would work better since it would hold the Bedphones tighter against both ears.

The takeaway

Traditional earbuds we use just don’t hold up to the rigors of sleep.  They don’t have the longer cable or strain relief like Bedphones.  I have actually had the wires pull out of the speakers or the cable split down the center on my cheaper earbuds while sleeping.

Overall I liked the Bedphones.  They are comfortable, stay in place while tossing and turning, and are well-made and engineered. I would give it 5 stars if there was a way to keep both sides pressed against the ears to provide equal volume and sound balance.  Since they do not, it can be annoying having the sound fade from the left to right ear as one turns from sleeping on their left to right side.  For this reason, I give them 4 stars.  I think most people will love them, especially back sleepers.  Side and stomach sleepers will like them better than traditional earbuds, but may find the balance a bit annoying.
