I don’t know about you, but sometimes the high point of my day is a nice hot shower (or cool depending on the weather). Can you feel me?
So I try very hard to make my showers as luxurious and relaxing as possible. I love to experiment with in-shower moisturizers, body wash, poufs, scrubs, etc. And most especially I love to try different blends and scents of soap. I can’t handle most manufactured soaps with artificial scents – they exacerbate my asthma – but homemade soaps made with all natural ingredients are wonderful.
My friend Beth at Applachian Heritage Soaps & Sundries sent me a 3 pack of soaps from her collection. All of the soaps and sundries are handmade in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains (by Beth). Dedicated to preserving the herbal arts of the area, Appalachian Heritage products use native plants, local products, and are based on folk remedies and family stories.
Here are the soaps I received:
Each soap’s wrapper tells a story about one of Beth’s family members and how they inspired the soap. For example, here is the description from the wrapper of Grandma Bertha’s Buttermilk Lavender Soap:
Grandma Bertha’s gentle face reminds me of the gentle goodness of lavender and buttermilk. Used for centuries as beauty preparations, both have been used for relaxation, moisturization, and treating wrinkles. May this luscious bar leave you as lovely as Grandma Bertha, native of Jackson County, WV.
Here’s what the bars look like unwrapped:
Let me first just say that these soaps smelled incredible!! I received Grandma Bertha’s Buttermilk Lavender Soap, Grandma Lizzie’s Rose Trellis Soap and Aunt Ann’s Pick-Me-Up Soap. My personal favorite is the buttermilk lavender soap, although the rose trellis soap was wonderful also. The family consensus was for the Pick-Me-Up soap, which is a blend of rosemary and mint. It has a nice, bright scent that will cheer you and wake you up even on a bad day. Bud, in particular, felt that the other two soaps were “too girly.”
The lather on these soaps is perfect – just the right amount and the scent lasts, which I appreciate. These bars don’t go to mush and after two weeks of the whole family using them you can barely tell they’ve been used.
I highly recommend these soaps!! There are so many scents to choose from. Next time I think we will purchase some of the more “manly” scents and see what the men in the family think of that!!
I received a complimentary sample of this product for review. Also Beth is a personal friend. Regardless, all opinions are 100% my own.
