Simple Ways to Pamper Yourself Daily

As I’ve talked about in my two recent articles, (What the Heck is Self-Care, Why is Self-Care Important?),  taking care of yourself is important for good physical and mental health.  But besides the daily and weekly tasks we need to do for ourselves, let’s not forget to also pamper ourselves.

According to the New Oxford American Dictionary, to pamper means to:

Indulge with every attention, comfort, and kindness; spoil.

Finding the time to take a long soak in a bubble bath or get a relaxing massage can be difficult.

Here are some ways to squeeze pampering in, a little bit every day.

      • Give yourself a facial massage.
This only takes a few minutes, and you won’t believe how relaxed you will feel afterwards.
First, start with a clean face and neck. If you don’t already own a facial oil, you can start with something as simple as coconut oil, especially if you have dry skin. Or you can find a decent facial oil for around $10 online.
Put a small amount of the oil on your fingertips and starting at your forehead, make small circles up and outward, moving slowly down the sides of your face and neck.  Don’t press too hard, this is supposed to be relaxing, not painful.
      • Use lavender spray on your sheets and/or pillow. It’s easy to make your own lavender spray with a few drops of essential oil and about an ounce of either vodka or witch hazel. If you don’t have a spray bottle, then you can just sprinkle a little bit with your fingers. Either way, the lavender scent should help you to relax as you prepare to go to sleep.
(I used to use a homemade spray, but now I put a few drops of essential oil in my bedside diffuser and let it run while I am getting ready for bed.)
      •  Brew yourself a cup of tea.
I’m not talking about popping a pod in your pod machine.  I mean, heating up the water and pouring it over either a tea bag or loose tea leaves. Then wait patiently for 5-10 minutes for the tea to steep. Take the time to relax.  Inhale some deep breaths to capture every nuance of the amazing smell.
Once the tea is ready, sip it slowly, savoring every hot, comforting sip.
      • Slip into the softest pajamas, or if you sleep in the buff, then the softest sheets.

These pjs have been rated some of the softest on Amazon, and look how cute!
If you opt for the sheets, look for 100% cotton, with at least a 300 thread count. Non-cotton sheets don’t breathe as well, which can contribute to overheating.

  • No time for a bath? Treat yourself to a shower with Dr. Jacobs Naturals.
Dr Jacobs Naturals Castile Soap line is 100% Made in the USA!
Dr Jacobs Face and Body wash is non gmo, no palm oil, paraben free, PETA-approved, with no synthetic fragrance, gluten, preservatives or coloring. It’s also sulfate free and cruelty free and made with fair trade shea butter.

Dr. Jacobs also has five scents of castile bar soap, and an amazing charcoal body wash.

I was sent the Almond Honey liquid soap, Charcoal liquid soap, and Minty Mojito bar soap for review. My favorite is the Almond Honey liquid soap. It smells just like sweet almond oil. The ingredients are so safe and moisturizing, I even washed my hair with it!! Afterwards. my hair was so soft and easier to comb through than usual.

Bud’s favorite is the Minty Mojito bar soap, although I think he made his choice based solely on which was his favorite scent.  The Charcoal liquid soap smells like lavender and citrus, which is an interesting combination. The best part of this soap is that the activated charcoal detoxifies, as well as cleansing your skin.  In my opinion, it also has a very mild abrasive quality.

For the next month, Dr. Jacobs Naturals is offering free shipping on all purchases over $20 with code freeship20.

I received free product in exchange for a thoughtful review.  All opinions are 100% my own.

Why Is Self-Care Important?

As I mentioned in my previous blog What the Heck is Self-Care?, I am on a journey to take better care of myself. Being snappy and feeling anxious or on edge all the time wears a person down.  Self-care makes it a bit easier to deal with the stresses in my life.

Self-care is simply doing the things you like to do that help you feel happy and healthy. There really is no limit to what self-care is because it’s all about what you like doing for yourself and your personality that makes you a better person, parent, spouse, sibling, and friend.

Don’t do things you think you need to do or what others say you need to do. Do what you know you love and want. It doesn’t have to require money or be anything extravagant. Some simple ideas are to meditate, get up early, read a book, or go for a jog.

Neglecting yourself and putting your needs on the back burner inevitably leads to an unhealthy life. Self-care needs to be a part of everyone’s personal schedule and shouldn’t be overlooked due to time or because someone believes it is selfish. Self-care is essential to having a healthy, productive, and happy life.

Self-care is imperative because it can help you deal with:

  1. Stress — Most everyone lives with stress in their daily lives but it’s important to try to reduce this as much as possible. Plenty of medical research shows that stress can cause many negative side effects. This includes headaches, low energy, aches and pain and even insomnia.
  2. Burnout – Burnout is another form of extreme stress that results in physical and emotional exhaustion, negativity, lack of enjoyment and the feeling of hopelessness. Burnout typically happens when people are overworked or during events that you feel you can’t control. Self-care allows you to take a break from these activities that can result in burnout. Even if it’s a simple one-minute break where you just close your eyes and breathe, it will help reduce this type of stress.
  3. Negativity — Putting everyone else’s needs over your own will turn just about anyone negative. The feeling of not being important and that their needs overpower yours is a horrible feeling. The fact is, the more your needs are met the more others needs will be met too. You will experience less bitterness and resentment towards others if you take care of yourself.

If you find yourself at any point feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or just negative towards people stop what you are doing immediately. You can easily take a few minutes to refocus your mind. Maybe you need to talk to your friends and family for a few minutes or look at a few pictures that make you happy such as babies or cats. This will allow you to relax and adjust your attitude. You will be amazed at how much more productive you will be if you just put yourself first.
