About the Book:

Fear is a cage. It closes us in and keeps us from living in the freedom that we should be.

Some people get so overcome by fear that they cannot even leave their house. Phobias have become almost fashionable. We label our fears and hug them tight to us as if they are things we need to keep our security. We coddle them and keep them happy so that they don’t destroy us, and the last thing we want to do is provoke them. That powerlessness is what keeps us from accomplishing great things in our lives, whether personally or for God’s kingdom.

In Freedom from Fear, we explore the keys to our freedom through faith and obedience to God’s word. With this book, you’ll learn to put your trust in God’s character and turn to him when you’re feeling out of control.

My Review:

Fear has been one of my biggest issues over the years (No Punishment, No Fear; The Year of No Fear; My One Word for 2016: Brave). I can definitely identify with the first line from the book, “Fear is a cage.” After multiple Bible studies, books read, and praying, I am slowly getting better at giving my fears to God and letting go.  I appreciated Pauline Creeden’s book, Freedom From Fear, for its fresh perspective.

Every chapter is interspersed with Bible verses and Bible stories that relate to specific types of fear:

  • Fear of Losing Control
  • Fear of Being Alone
  • Fear of Uncertainty

In addition, Creeden offers tips on what the reader can do to help overcome fear, why the tips work and how to put each one into action.  For example:

The first step to overcoming fear in the face of impossible circumstances is to realize these feelings inside of yourself. It’s not just self-doubt, but also fear of the unknown. Your first step is to recognize the voice of fear when you hear it. Then do your best not to listen to it.

One of the biggest takeaways for me is the realization that it’s okay to be afraid and to question things.  That fear is not a sin.  That the problem comes when we don’t talk to God (pray) about our situation and our feelings.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

2 Timothy 1:7

I highly recommend this devotional for any Christian who is struggling with fear or anxiety issues. It’s empowering and comforting at the same time.

I received a complimentary copy of this book for the purpose of review.  All opinions are 100% my own.

About the Author:

Pauline Creeden is a horse trainPauline Creedener from Virginia, but writing is her therapy. In her fiction, she creates worlds that are both familiar and strange, often pulling the veil between dimensions. She becomes the main character in each of her stories, and because she has ADD, she will get bored if she pretends to be one person for too long.
