Petunia Skincare Anti-Aging Trio Review #petuniaskincare

Ever since I had my cataract surgery back in August, and stopped wearing glasses, I’ve really been aware of the dark circles under my eyes.  They’re especially noticeable first thing in the morning, when I’m getting ready for work.  I’ve learned all the tricks for covering up these ugly blue spots, but I really wanted to find out what causes them and how to eliminate them.

What Causes Dark Under Eye Circles?

According to Real Simple, blue circles result from oxygenated blood pooled beneath the under-eye skin.

Skin here is very thin and almost transparent, so blood shows through. This is more noticeable in the morning: When we’ve been horizontal for a while, fluids accumulate and the veins expand to hold more blood. Blue circles may get worse with age. “As we get older, we lose subcutaneous fat, which can mask blueness below the surface of the skin,” says dermatologist Joshua Zeichner, the director of cosmetic and clinical research at Mount Sinai Medical Center, in New York City.

Now I knew the cause of my dark circles, but how to fix them?  Enter the people at Petunia Skincare, who asked me to review their Anti-Aging Trio of a derma roller, eye serum and anti-aging serum.

About Petunia Skincare

Petunia Skincare is committed to deliver the highest formulation standards.
Made in the USA with love, passion and time, their formulations set them apart from other skincare brands.
Petunia Skincare uses only safe natural ingredients or synthetic ingredients that are otherwise impossible to extract, but nevertheless are safer and more reliable than those marketed as being ‘natural’. For example, they don’t like to use animals in their products, so they prefer to use hyaluronic acid purified from fermented bacteria rather than made from rooster combs.

 1.0 mm Derma Roller

The derma roller is made of medical grade stainless steel.  It has 540 microneedles, which when rolled over your skin, allow serums to penetrate deeper and absorb faster.

Revitalize Eye Serum

The eye serum is made with Vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, caffeine, B3 and other natural and organic ingredients.  Used twice daily, it can help diminish dark circles, puffiness and swollen eyes, as well as hydrating, firming and plumping the skin.

Professional Hyaluronic Acid Serum

Made with highly concentrated hyaluronic acid, ferulic acid, and Vitamin C, the professional hyaluronic acid serum can help your skin retain moisture, reverse skin damage and prevent future damage.

My Review:

First let me say that I was very skeptical about rolling tiny needles over my skin.  I did a lot of research before I even started using these products.  Turns out, dermarolling is perfectly safe, as long as you use medical grade stainless steel, only roll your skin once or twice a week, and thoroughly rinse and dry the roller after each use.

So I steeled myself (no pun intended) and started rolling.

After rolling I applied the hyaluronic acid serum all over my face, then the eye serum under my eyes, and finished off with my usual moisturizing cream.

I have been using the products for about three weeks.  I can say that the derma roller definitely helps the product absorb into the skin faster.  Without the roller it feels like the serums sit on my face for a few minutes before sinking in.

In the three weeks since I started using the anti-aging trio, I have noticed my dark circles are lightening up.  But most importantly, my skin is much softer and more hydrated.  Also, it just feels younger to me.  I hope that as time goes on I will continue to see improvement.

I recommend the Petunia Anti-aging Skincare Trio for all those who are starting to see a decrease in skin hydration or who are dealing with dark circles and discoloring of the skin due to aging.

Level Life Low Carb Snacks Review

Level Life Low Carb Snacks ReviewA part of my journey to a healthier me, I have been tracking my food.  Not just for calories and fat, but also to make sure I get enough protein and fiber in a day.

Did you know you should be consuming between 10%-35% of your daily calories in protein?  That means a person like me, who eats around 1500 calories a day, should be consuming a minimum of 38 protein grams a day.  In addition, a female under the age of 50 should consume a minimum of 25 grams of fiber per day.

Now, I usually manage to get enough protein in a day, but I don’t think I’ve ever hit that elusive 25 gram mark.  For that reason, I am always on the lookout for high protein and high fiber options that are still tasty.

I was thrilled when the folks at Level Foods asked me to review their collection of low carb snacks.

About Level Life

Level Life was founded by Ethan Lewis, a Type 1 diabetic.  Ethan says:

I started LEVEL Life because I’ve struggled for too long living with diabetes. I created it for both you and me — and we’re here to make your life with diabetes easier.

Level Life products are a collection of bars, shakes, sweet snacks and even glucose gels, that

  • support healthy blood sugar throughout the day
  • fight hunger/control carbs
  • support weight loss
  • All products are low glycemic and gluten free

My Review:

No one in my immediate family is diabetic, but we are bringing the glucose gels to Art’s Uncle Norval, who is.  Glucose gels are 2 times faster than juice and have 50% less calories than soda, so they are perfect for those occasional low blood sugar emergencies.  They come in strawberry banana, vanilla, mandarin orange and green apple flavors.

Bud and I went to town on the bars, shakes and sweet treats.  Each bar has 11-12 grams of protein and each shake has 15 grams of protein.  Both have only about 4 net carbs per serving!!  In addition, all have 6 grams of fiber.

These products are a great supplement to my weight loss program and Bud’s strength training program.  I have a bar for breakfast, with my usual yogurt and take a shake for my afternoon snack.  I find that I am not as draggy at the end of the workday and I’m not reaching for an iced coffee or other sugar and caffeine laden drink to get me through until 5 p.m.  My favorite shake is the strawberry and Bud’s is the vanilla.  They also come in caramel and chocolate flavors.  The caramel chocolatey peanut is our favorite bar and (no surprise) the peanut turtle bars were our favorite sweet snack.  Honestly, though I couldn’t find a flavor I didn’t like.  They were all quite tasty.

Level Life also offers a free weight loss program geared towards helping you lose weight, improve your diabetes measurements and move forward with your life.  There is a 14 day jumpstart guide, 100s of delicious recipes, plus weekly diabetic tips. You can sign up here.

I highly recommend the Level Life products whether you are diabetic, or just looking to improve your diet and raise your protein and fiber levels.

I received a complimentary collection of Level Life products for the purpose of review.  All opinions are 100% my own.
