train bulletproof picasso reviewThree-time Grammy winning San Francisco band Train’s upcoming new album, Bulletproof Picasso, is available for pre-order at iTunes, giving fans the early jump aboard Train’s much anticipated 7th studio album in advance of its September 16th release date.

The album’s first single, “Angel In Blue Jeans,” has soared to the Top 15 of Triple A and Adult Top 40 radio in only a month, joining the band’s successful arsenal of other radio-embraced singles throughout their two-decade career. An evocative video for the new song premiered on VEVO July 15th, featuring seasoned character actor Danny Trejo, who starred in the Robert Rodriguez-helmed ‘Mariachi-style’ sagas Machete and Dusk Til Dawn, among others. Hannah Simone from the hit TV show ‘New Girl’ is also featured in the clip.

Bulletproof Picasso was produced by previous Train collaborator Butch Walker, and reflects frontman-singer/songwriter Pat Monahan’s penchant for distinctive musical stylings on this one.

“I’ve always wanted to emotionally connect with people through the songs,” says Monahan. “But I also want to get into people’s lives with this album. We’re very excited about Bulletproof Picasso and we’re looking forward to performing some of the new songs for all our fans.”

My Review:

I have loved Train ever since I first heard “Calling all Angels” over 10 years ago.  I used to make my kids CRAZY!!  Every time that song came on I would say, “Oh, they’re calling me!!”  and laugh hysterically.  Oh well, simple pleasures I guess 😉

Two years ago, some good friends surprised me with tickets to see Train and Maroon 5 at an outdoor concert.  They were even more amazing in person!!

When I got the opportunity to listen to the band’s brand new album, Bulletproof Picasso, in pre-release, I just couldn’t pass it up, now could I?

First, let me just say that if you haven’t heard “Angel in Blue Jeans” yet, you need to listen to it now!!  It’s not your typical Train song – it has an outlaw theme and a haunting chorus.  It even has an awesome music video starring Danny Trejo (star of Machete and Dawn of the Dead).  Check it out:

One of my favorite songs on the album is: “Wonder What You’re Doing For the Rest of Your Life” featuring the talented British singer Marsha Ambrosius.  Others that moved me were “Just a Memory”, “I’m Drinking Tonight”, “The Bridge” and “Don’t Grow Up So Fast”, which made me think a lot about my kids.

I think Bulletproof Picasso is a solid album.  I like that Train tried a slightly new direction, but still included some songs that are closer to their trademark style.  I give Bulletproof Picasso four and a half microphones.  I believe this album will appeal to fans of Train as well as making some new converts.
