Arthropet Review

If you’ve been following me for any length of time, then you have heard me blog about our border corgle, Kiff. (see The Unexpected Corgle and Corgle Update – He’s So Cute!!  You’ll have to wait until next week for a Kiff update.  Today I’m talking about our older dog, Katie.

Bud and KatieHere’s a picture of Bud and Katie when we first got her in 2005.  She is part black lab/part chow (notice her black tongue?) We got her when she was about eight months old.  She had been found wandering the streets of a nearby town.  She was skittish and needy, but oh so sweet.

Katie todayAnd here’s a photo of Katie today.  She’s 8 1/2 years old now and getting a little creaky in the joints.  Some cold mornings it’s very hard for her to get out of bed.  We weren’t sure what to do for her.  Then the nice people at Neocell offered me a month’s supply of Arthropet.

According to Neocell:

Arthropet™ is an innovative formula that provides chicken cartilage (a natural source of collagen type 2, glucosamine, chondroitin, and hyaluronic acid), plus MSM, CMO, and Manganese.

And here is a testimonial from the owner of a service dog named Takoda.  The dog had torn a tendon, and the vet projected it would take $3000 worth of treatment to bring Takoda back to health…and even then treatment might not work.   Neocell sent some Arthropet to the owner and here is the letter they got back:

wanted to send a message and a huge thanks to everyone at Neocell for their kindness during Takoda’s injury.   Your supplements have been an amazing aid in his healing.  Our vet expected him to be out for 3 months.  A month later and he has been cleared for duty.  He has healed and is doing amazing.  I really don’t think we could have done this without you and words cannot express my gratitude.  He still gets a little sore after rought play but we are continuing with the supplements and know he will continue to heal.  His vet was amazed and happy to see how well he is doing.  Takoda is extremely happy to be back at work and training again. Thank You so much.  🙂  Me and Takoda will be forever in your debt.

My Review:

Neocell is in a “chewable wafer” form.  The directions are to give it to your dog in the morning, on an empty stomach, preferably at least 20 minutes before feeding.  For the first three days, Katie ate the wafers right out of my hand.  Then, I would set the kitchen timer for 20 minutes, put both the dogs outside while I did the morning dishes, and then feed them.  It was a great routine!!

The problem was that after three days Katie was no longer interested in eating the wafers plain.  And I am no good at pilling a dog.  I tried hiding them in a piece of bread and a piece of cheese, but she’d just spit out the wafers after she ate “the good stuff.”  So I had to forgo the directions and bury the wafers under her dog food.  Then she ate them, no complaints.

Before the Arthropet, Katie would take a long time getting out of her bed in the morning, stepping gingerly until she got here “sea legs”.  She didn’t chase anymore, either, not even birds (and you know how much a lab loves to chase birds!)

After one week on the Arthropet, Katie was already getting up more quickly and enthusiastically.  But the true tell was at the end of the month.  Bud came home from classes a couple of evenings ago and Katie ran outside to greet him!! She was jumping around and capering, just like Kiff!!  We haven’t seen her like that in years!!

So, as you can see, I am sold on Arthropet!!

I received a complimentary bottle of this product for the purpose of review.  All opinions are 100% my own.

  1. Our dog Mitch is a rescue. We’ve had him since he was a puppy. He’s gentle and loving and sweet. He’s also old and struggles to get up sometimes. He can no longer jump on people to greet them (which is probably a good thing) due to his old age and arthritis. We’d love to try this with him

  2. I have eight dogs, three of which are rescues. However, the fur kid that I am most interested in winning this for is my oldest. She is 12 years old and is my “heart dog”…. Although I love all my dogs, this particular one is very very special to me. I’d love to win the arthropet for her to try as shes stopped wanting to walk up and down our front and back steps and so I usually go in and out and lift her up and down….she also sometimes acts like she doesnt want to get off of her bed and I have to make sure she goes to sleep on a bed or she acts very stiff when she wakes up. She is a very food motivated dog and I’m almost certain she would gobble these up like treats as even when I’ve had to give her medicine at times, she will just eat it for me. Something you might want to try for your dog in getting Her to eat it is just a dab of peanut butter….with my dogs who dont want to take something that’s what I usually do, a dab of peanut butter on a spoon with whatever it is pushed in the middle and usually they will eat it up! After reading your review, I’d love to try this supplement with Anna and see how it does and if it makes her feel better when she seems so stiff. Thank you.

  3. One of our shelties is a 11 year old that is beginning to have joint issues. I’d love to try this product out and see if it helps with his mobility. This product is new to me; thanks for the review and for the giveaway.

  4. We adopted our English Mastiff, Jasmine from the local animal shelter. At 175 lbs., she isn’t a little dog, so have to make sure her joints are healthy to support the weight.

  5. oh my gosh. i am so thrilled to have found this article. my aust shep/border collie mix, ‘sadie’, turned 16 years old today. i have had her on a couple different ‘joint’ supplements for about a year now and i am not seeing much improvement. my next step is prescription pain meds but i dont want to have to do that. i hate giving my pets drugs. she is really struggling to get up and down and i just hate to see her in such pain. i need to get her some of these! thank you!

  6. We are now dog-less. 🙁 We had to send our 14 year old “home” a few months ago. I would love to win this for one of our besties! They have a border collie as well who is starting to struggle with sore joints so this is a product that might be very helpful in making the last bit of her life more comfortable.

  7. I have a 12-yr-old Siberian Husky who is in really good health… but I’ve noticed her becomeing a little slower on the steps, & having a bit of difficulty jumping up on the couch & chairs. This would really help her, I think!!!(HollyCunningham) Thanks for the chance….

  8. We have a golden retriever/lab mix and she is having very similar issues. She is over 10 years old now, and getting up and moving are starting to get difficult for her. We would love to try this to see if it will ease some of her difficulty in moving. Anything to make it a bit easier for her! Like your dog, she loves chasing birds and playing with my girls. Thank you for the giveaway!
